For this meeting, we just examined different value chains of organizations assigned to us. In our case, our organization is a Data Center. We presented our value chain but the comment was that the focus should be on the “space rental” service. We discussed the need of managing the servers and other features such as asset keeping and security of data.
In relation to this, we learned in class that SM (Shoe Mart) is nor a retail business. It is actually a real estate business. SM leases its space to different companies that sell products. They rent the space and the location of that space. For example, a known brand will pay the consumer eye-level space while the company that has no budget can only opt to lease the low-level space. We also discussed how SM Bonus products are leveled with the known brands so that consumers can see the comparison in terms of price.
I had a lot of realizations after that discussion. It is really true that SM does that! They are really good in business and making money.
Two of my classmates reported for the day, the first one’s topic is virtualization while the other one is data hosting. Both reports were very informative.
